Consumer-grade products are usually commercial products. Almost none aren't, because reliable & repairable hardware isn't useful for grifting.

Installing #debian is always smooth but the way computers can have different ways of booting, getting to bios/uefi, removing locks or needing specific firmwares makes everything a bit annoying, if not complicated.

I can't wait to see more and more #librehardware to ease the work of #libresoftware devs and enjoy some reliable standards on that matter.

I appreciate efforts of teams like the #Purism one, even if their communication is not always on point.

I came across this interesting article (https://libreboot.org/news/policy.html) by the #libreboot project about #LibreHardware or #FreeHardware regarding the shortcomings of the #RYF as well as the #FSDG and the uses of CPU #microcode.

Modern hardware is broken and unfortunately tradeoffs are needed, but also those criteria misunderstand a number of evolving technical details.

@aspie4K indeed. I'm not too enthused about using an Apple Silicon myself, but I welcome the likelihood that more software will now be optimized for ARM64 - and likely, more people familiar with it would build container images for it too.

Also, this would make the hopefully-soon transition to #RISCV easier. Not too keen on ARM long term given its Nvidia ownership (and the availability of a #LibreHardware alternative that is fast getting competitive)
