Has anyone else had difficulty with #AccountMigration from @purism's #LibremOne to #SocialCoop (@SocialCoop)? When I try to create an #AccountAlias it says my old account handle could not be found. Anyone able to advise please? Many thanks

Wow! I just realized that #LibremOne is actually running a fork of Mastodon called "Smilodon".

I think what's a bit more surprising is that, if you go to its GitLab page, you'll see that there hasn't been a single commit since about 2 years ago.

The closest I can think of like this is #LibremOne from #Purism, whose apps and solutions are very outdated and incomplete, a #Nextcloud instance that is either way too expensive and business oriented in my country or reasonably priced but so far away that it's not even funny how slowly it loads, or getting some form of local storage that is really hard to afford for me.

Can someone with connections to @purism@librem.one help me get my old librem one Mastodon account deleted? There's no option to delete your account in that mastodon fork.

Okay, at first glance, #LibremOne is great. They chose the right apps to put into their software suite, and they did streamline the experience so that all the open source programs are easy to use for newcomers. The best thing is that you don´t have to worry about what "decentralized" means at first, using matrix and mastodon just works out of the box.
Those things will become easier to understand after new people use it, and it adds to the experience not having to know the details at first.

For the record, I had never heard of #purism / #libremone before. I don't have an opinion on what they are doing or the people opposing what they are doing. It's just a good example of how people are more outraged by ideological impurity than by outright opposition. This level of attention to detail is why things get bloody and ugly in revolutions. The rebels fight each other then the status quo rolls them both up.

You want to know why I always rail against revolution talk? the #purism / #libremone kerfuffle is a good example of how differences in ideological purity tear movements apart. No one is a grander traitor than those you thought shared your ideologies. Then time and effort is spent purging the movement of ideological impurity, while ignoring those diametrically opposed.

#Fosstodon is my second #Mastodon instance and I ♥ the local timeline so much that it is my most used one, not the normal timeline which only consists of remote followers. So the #LibremOne idea of no local timeline means I would never use it.

But we already sorted out we're paying #libremone for their servers, not their apps. And those watts still need to be paid.....

I think it's good idea to create forks, but I wonder how does it work long term in security area. Especially with secure email/chat/mastodon clients. Over time without extensive resources, you'll end up with unsecure software.
