I always give to the projects I use regularly. The time put in to make #foss as awesome as it is and to give us such a wide range of options is not free. Thank you #flosssocial

So I've seen :donor: on an increasing number of profiles. First of all: y'all rock! In case you're not aware, that's the "donor" emoji.

Which brings me to the issue: I had to look it up in the custom emojis. Maybe there is a better symbol to showcase your financial support to @jerry? Cuz a padlock could mean *anything* in an infosec space 🙃 E.g. #signal has space-themed tiers and those look cute.

But maybe that's just me and I didn't get the memo.

And thanks to @martiell for the hint that € donations via #librepay are possible now 😊

@canadianwotaku Peertube isn't centralized in one place. It's kind of like publishing a blog on your own website... but with video. Or on a friend's website (if you share a #peertube site with other video creators).

So you can indirectly monetize with #librepay, #substack, other types of donations or "listener supported" methods.

@LPS @torproject #librepay is fine AFAIK, but #opencollective is actually MitMd by #CloudFlare (the top adversary of the #Tor community). Torproject is already giving plenty of options, but they need to remove the privacy abusing ones. Torproject also subjects donors to #Amazon Pay & amzn Smile. Amazon is also a notorious #privacy abuser.

I donated a special book shelf I made to them today and just became their 3rd patron. I guess I should tell them about #LibrePay...

@da@mastodon.technology so #librepay does attempt to ameliorate this by recommending larger payments over longer periods to reduce fees. They are also super transparent on where the costs go on their receipts but I agree micro-payments are still sub-optimal. I'll see how this goes but I'll reboot my #flattr account and at least check out the current state. I'm favoring regular subscriptions over "drive-by" tips because all the stuff I support is software which is an ongoing development.

I used to donate to a number of projects/creators using flattr but I let those lapse as the site went through it's various iterations and changes. I've come to prefer the direct subscription model and after a modest prompt from @xvilo I've finally setup #librepay for a few projects I use heavily. I have to say I was expecting to aggregate the various donations and do one regular payment rather than setting a payment cadence (and provider!) for each donation.

I've never transferred funds online before, sorry. I only know of #Librepay, but I think there's some kind of hashtag like #askfediverse for this kind of thing. The people there might know of some other options.
