The LXC config file generated by `lxc-create -t debian` on the host upgraded to Debian 12 doesn't seem to differ from those created before the upgrade, so maybe the answer is on the #libvirt side.

I suspect the next step is installing a #libvirt from scratch, directly on Debian 12, and compare the #lxc backend configuration.

Next (minor so far) annoyance in LXC guests:

# ps -hu
root 99 0.0ps: Unable to get total memory

so I suppose I'll have to dig into #libvirt/#lxc settings and learn more about cgroups etc.

Other random #libvirt question. Aside from $$$$$$ RHEL tooling for things like OpenShift (and its add-ons), is there a good app/util for backing up KVM VMs? or is rsync'ing the QCOW files to a backup destination as good as it gets? @vwbusguy @major (et. al.)

I would run #libvirt-daemon on the host and use #virt-manager from a desktop to manage it via SSH.

Die Kombination aus #KVM (im Linux Kernel enthalten), #QEMU und #libvirt erlaubt sehr flotte x86 Virtualisierung. Besonders Windows und viele Linuxe funktionieren als Gast prima. MacOS geht auch, und auch recht "esoterische" Hard- und Software.

Things I appreciate about #redhat

In 2008 #redhat bought a company called Qumranet (they'd just had a little thing called KVM merged into the #linux kernel the year before). They also had some proprietary products. #redhat open sourced it all and sponsored a number of related projects. I appreciate #redhat for their role in #kvm #spice #ovirt #libvirt #virtmanager and saving us from having to choose between Citrix Xen and VMWare.

I successfully broke my #Fedora #Silverblue station.

How ? I was on the official docs to remember how to add a system package with rpm-ostree and saw in the useful example; " #libvirt ".

I didn't think it through and installed it with #evolution-ews.

In the end, I'm still unable to sync with an ms exchange server AND most of my #pods and all #toolbox containers are now unusable... they don't start anymore and complain about a setting out of my reach (readonly fs).

So... yeah. I did it.

Programar es com solucionar problemes

A principis de la semana passada estava interactuant amb màquines virtuals usant virt-manager.
Problema: a mi personalment no m'agrada gens l'interficie de #virtmanager.

Així que vaig decidir començar a crear una aplicació amb #dotnet i #avaloniaui que interactuant amb #libvirt permet gestionar e interactuar amb màquines virtuals.

La seguiré desenvolupant durant el meu temps lliure.
Tinc planejat publicar-la com una aplicació open-source aviat.

If you're looking for a way to safely use any application with the #tor network, without the overhead of #whonix, then I suggest you try TorVirt.

It's a simple #shellscript that sets up a #libvirt #virtual #network and a Tor daemon in a #lightweight #rootless #podman #container.
