It's the time of the year when #noctilucentclouds (#lichtendenachtwolken) tend to appear over latitudes of 50 degrees plus on the northern hemisphere, but this year they hardly don't. They are quite unpredictable and of course you need a clear sky at the right moment. Till now there was just one nice display here, only visible in the western part of the Netherlands where they had the luck of a clear sky in the early morning of 30 June. The image here I took on 5 July 2022.

Wat zijn lichtende nachtwolken?

In juni begint het seizoen waarin lichtende nachtwolken zijn te zien op het noordelijk halfrond. In zeldzame gevallen kunnen ze eind mei al zichtbaar worden. Het seizoen is in feite gecentreerd rond de zomerzonnewende in juni dus deze lichtende nachtwolken kunnen ook begin juli nog worden gezien.
