Hot dog, my first #lifebird in over 2 months - olive-sided flycatcher. Unfortunately I didn't bring along my camera, but even in these awful cell phone pics you can see that diagnostic white butt tuft. My number one most wanted, never would have thought I'd catch one migrating right through my local preserve! Albany County, NY, August 2023

This Myiarchus flycatcher is driving my crazy - I'm 88% sure I've got an ash-throated here. Seems to have too much wing barring for dusky-capped, too thin of a bill for brown-capped, and too gray of a face for Nutting's. Totally silent, unfortunately. 2022 was my first full year as a birder, and I really got to rack up the life birds. Altogether I encountered 352 species, over 150 of which were lifers. I was a top 100 birder on eBird for New York State, which is pretty tough living upstate competing with the multitudes of NYC birders! Went on a 9 hour pelagic trip from Washington State a couple months ago- sick as a dog the whole time. There was about 2 minutes where all was calm and we were totally surrounded by fulmars and shearwaters. So, a tiny silver lining. Pacific County, Washington, September 2022
