19 years ago this week I had my interview with NOVA to teach in Japan the 1st time. At the time I was a socially terrified geek and had very little interest in travel.
I was supposed to go to Sapporo, but a last minute change had me end up in Tsuruoka; a small city in Yamagata prefecture.
It took me out of my comfort zone and was very much the thing I needed to get through some personal barriers🇯🇵🏯

How it was vs. how it's going

29.7.2021: 10km 8:30/km 1:25:12 92.5kg

16.9.2022: 10km 5:24/km 0:54:11 74.5kg

Started eating properly with #CICO and running weekly in the end of July of 2021. Lost over 15kg (30 lbs) by the spring 2022.

In 2023 been running daily and maintaining my weight. Because of the weather it's difficult to concentrate on speed and distances so I'm waiting for spring and summer for better running platforms.

Last few days at my old job and last few weeks in this city before we pack up and move 🚛. The idea had been brewing for some time and this summer, we took action and applied for new jobs.

I'll be #moving back to my home town after 20 years. Quite excited, quite scared - but overall looking forward to being closer to my family. And to finally have a proper garden/realm/kingdom for our dog, which is the main reason for all this, of course (He made me type this).

Earlier this year, I decided to shift my career and stop doing Costume Design for theatre.

I worked all my life to teach theatre professionally. I got an MFA in Theatre and taught at a university for the last 20 years.

But theatre-making has changed, education has changed, the students have changed, and I have changed, too. I am deeply unhappy & I have to move on. I know that.

But letting that life dream go is devastating. I'm in mourning.
