Hello #linux and #debian friends and strangers — is it possible for an #appimage to mess up your USB drivers somehow?? My laser cutter won't laser-cut, it's reporting the wrong PID and VID to #Lightburn. Correct in lsusb. What. (it's not dec/hex confusion) Could running the Arduino IDE appimage have changed the USB driver settings or something?? That's the only thing I can think of that's changed..??

Is it because I'm an empty nester, that I can fit more into my nests than online nesting software can? 😂

I had a race:- Tetris-ed the pieces, and cut them out, and the nesting software was still struggling to get past 19% material usage.

So, either we don't worry about software taking over the world, or smart business people have moved the smart nesting algorithms into paid software🤔

For measurements up to 150mm (longest I can measure), this is the kind of accuracy I'm getting in both directions with the 5W xTool D1 Pro #LaserCutter, using a 0.12mm offset in #LightBurn.

I spent the day learning more about Inkscape; particularly how to convert a bitmap image to a usable svg format. Laser cutters aren't too fond of bitmap images. They're just too pixelated.
Anyway, I had some good success!

Trying to learn #OpenSCAD. Also a bit obsessed with IsoGrid patterns lately, so I hacked together an OpenSCAD IsoGrid generator. Lets you export an SVG that can be used in #Fusion360 or #LightBurn.

No software should be able to install this fast, it's unnatural #LightBurn on #Fedora #Linux

I bought a 50W CO2 laser about a year ago. I've been using LightBurn software to run the laser and it's been a pleasure to use once I got it figured out.

One outstanding issue I still had to sort out was getting LightBurn to control the on/off of the air assist.

Should have been straight forward, according to the LightBurn documentation, but it wouldn't work and I was just controlling the air assist manually from the laser control panel. Also, I could not find anywhere else where someone had doc this issue.

The laser has a KT332N Rudia controller and I finally figured out that there were conflicting settings in the vendor parameters that LightBurn was not accessing. Had to set the Aux Air to "Blow when laser" and set the Open and Close times to 0. I now have full control through the software. 🎉​ #Lasercutting #Lightburn

I feel like I've made significant progress towards getting my #laser working again.

I've bought the bits, got #Grbl running on an #Arduino, and both #UGS and #Lightburn talking to it.

It's like I have a virtual laser cutter 🤔
Now to address the physical side of the project, and transplant the Arduino to replace the dodgy (and expensive, and unavailable, and Australian, and not-really-supported) control board.

Very quick #Project today. My son wanted some signs to help him remember which bin was which to help when he is sorting the recycling.

20 minutes in #Lightburn and 2 minutes #LaserCutting later....

Might run a layer or two of stain over them, but quite happy with how they came out for half an our of work.

Not sure how old your definition of "older" is, but with #Linux Mint they're fully usable. I'm posting from a Dell M1330 which came with Windows Vista 😭 and it ran my #lasercutter, the design software #Lightburn, #OpenSCAD etc.
