In #Lagos, der größten Stadt von #Nigeria, wurde gestern die Blaue Linie der neuen Stadtbahn eröffnet.

Die Stadtbahn akzeptiert die im öffentlichen Verkehr bereits etablierten Cowry-Guthabenkarten bzw. -Appzahlungen.

Bei einer aktuellen Krise kann die Stadtbahn helfen: im Mai hat die Regierung abrupt die Subsidierung von Benzin gestoppt. Seitdem ist der Autoverkehr in Lagos stark zurückgegangen. Menschen konnten sich ihre Arbeitswege nicht mehr leisten und mussten ihre Jobs kündigen. Berufsfahrer und Lieferanten wurden gekündigt. Einigen von ihnen bringt die Stadtbahn wieder Mobilität zurück.

Having tried it out for a day, my opinion of the #TelAviv #LightRail, it's good! The underground sections in particular are excellent. Fast and modern service, really great station signage and way-finding. It's clear the invested a lot of thought and care.

On this day in 2013, Variotrams on the Sydney Light Rail.

The line opened in 1997 between Central station and Wentworth Park, extending to Lilyfield in 2000 and Dulwich Hill in 2014. Now known as the Inner West Light Rail (or L1), the Variotrams were retired in 2015, replaced by CAF Urbos 3 trams.

I've been a big advocate of getting #Seattle #LightRail out to the suburbs for 30ish years.

I've lived in this #Lynnwood neighborhood for 7 years and have watched over 30 local businesses closed down, displaced, and disappeared.

Watching my neighborhood get destroyed has been really traumatizing to witness.

The phrase "We had to destroy the village in order to save it." is never far from my mind these days. #gentrification

I love this unauthorized #documentary of the #sfba #BART system, featuring beautiful golden-hour footage from a surreptitiously-attached GoPro on the front of the train, which hitched a ride from SFO to Pittsburg.

The documentary features voices from interesting people from BART’s past and present. I learned a lot about how the system came about, and how it’s run.

The ride is accompanied by the lovely, analog synth-heavy soundtrack of the game Manifold Garden, which invokes an ethereal, futuristic, Blade Runner esthetic as you glide in the first person point of view through tunnels, bridges, and open air, always following the silver tracks ahead.

Kudos to Vincent Woo for this movie. It’s breathtaking. Watch it on your 4K TV.
