We believe one role of the politician in the USA today is also to have people glued to their devices as much as possible, to extract the most value out of the person for free and other reasons.
Fedi instances generally are not engineered to do that, with the exception of #Mastodon, and its "#ExploreTab" and its new focus on Boost and #LikeCounts that botFarms are designed to game.

@james
Thank also Mastodon's #TopStories (ahem — "Explore") timeline, the display of #likeCounts and boost counts on all toots, and the new "Verified" feature.
BTW, does that timeline *ever* get replaced by the Local timeline?

@rolle There are three troubling things in the current default setup as far as we know. On the whole we must say the UI is quite pleasant but the troubling things are cause for great alertness and we say favour maintaining a fork.
1) Forces Javascript (#makeJavascriptOptional),
2) The #ExploreTimeline (which we call the Popularised by Bots timeline) undermines the spirit of fediverse,
3) The showing of #LikeCounts etc without opening the toot leads to #groupThink. Again an anti-feature.

Any security fixes ought be applied to previous versions of M'don, for those who don't wish to adopt certain (#)darkPatterns:
📵 Displaying #likeCounts/#boostCounts (incentivises bot-farms),
📵 The 'Explore' timeline, which is the default timeline now featuring "popular" (and possibly bot-farmed) posts akin to 'Top stories' on Fb,
📵 Infinite scroll (also requires JS).
Wrt security, M'don is allowing a long-running attack on the copyleft licence. See (#)AGPLv3Compliance.
