Limpet (Patella sp.) feeding trails - the one in the centre was clearly eating on the go! It's trail reminds me of a bungee rope.
Limpet teeth are made up of fibers of Goethite - one of the strongest known natural substances. County Clare, Ireland.

The inside of Common Limpet (Patella vulgata) shells often have an iridescence that is hard to capture on camera - but because this shell has been worn down a bit it's shining through much more strongly 😍 County Clare, Ireland.

An upturned Common Limpet (Patella vulgata) shell and a Dog Whelk (Nucella lapillus) shell. Although both are marine snails, the limpet is a grazer (feeding on seaweeds) while the whelk is a predator. Dog whelks drill holes in their preys shells using a rasp like structure called a radula. You can see the hole in this limpet shell where a dog whelk got in!!

The softer rock of the coast just slightly north of me at Widemouth (pronounced Widdmouth!)
The patterns are where limpets have slowly moved around and around, leaving the depressions in bowl shapes, some with a conical, untravelled centre point. Some limpets are still visibly occupied with the job if you zoom in!

A Limpet scar on a loose piece of limestone - Limpet scars are the marks these marine snails leave behind on their favourite resting spots. As they often repeatedly use the same spot to await the return of the tide their shells erode the rock leaving a distinctive mark. County Clare, Ireland.

A Limpet village - these Hardy marine gastropods (Patella spp.) gather in sheltered areas during periods of rough weather and spread out again once it settles down. Once commonly eaten by coastal communities they'd be a rarity in most irish homes these days.
