The #UK government’s migration policy clearly is monstrous, and nothing #Linekar said should be at all controversial. But it also seems genuinely absurd to me that people can seriously suggest that #BBC impartiality is threatened by a sports presenter’s opinions, but that it’s no problem at all for the Director-General to be a former Tory candidate, and the Chairman to be a major Tory donor. Surely the latter two are in a far more significant place to be able to impose their political bias?

The Gary Lineker story is a distraction from what Lineker tweeted *about* - the UK’s laws as regards refugees - and has hidden the issue of an episode of Boaty McBoatface not being broadcast because of fears of a backlash from the UK government #linekar #bbc #refugees #davidattenborough

Match of the day, fighting talk, football focus all off the air. Clubs refusing to talk to the #BBC and the #Beeb are backed into a corner with no strategy to get out.

You can’t come at football and win. The Tories will say that this is an internal matter at the BBC but having stuffed it full of their people and spent years decrying the BBCs liberal bias there’s no way they wash their hands of the mess that’s unfolding this weekend. I remember when football was considered an uncouth pursuit enjoyed by uncivilised people - now it’s the unofficial opposition to the government and it’s hideous policies of hatefulness and callousness. #motd #linekar

On this #Linekar fiasco… I could understand it if he questioned politicians on a political TV programme.

But he doesn’t talk about politics when presenting a sport programme, so I see no conflict of interest.

Ironically, he _is_ biased about sport - but when those Leicester City biases creep into his shows, we don’t see thousands of Chelsea fans complaining about his lack of impartiality.
