#Lingthusiasm https://lingthusiasm.com/post/709464013986217984 is fascinating for a lot of reasons. But "But I notice even when I’m speaking French to them, which I don’t have a native French accent, they’re not very good at transcribing what I’m saying in a language that isn’t like *the very Paris French that they’re trained on*." (emphasis mine) bothers me. (I don't use either, so can't verify which sociolect(s) they were trained on, but anything other than "all world Frenches" would be very bad.)
Just finished this ep of @lingthusiasm and feel like I don't know how to English anymore. Or do I? Is my brain broken, eh? My brain is broken, innit? What?

@soaproot - Just finished listening to last two episodes of #Lingthusiasm and really enjoyed them. As a layperson interested in language/linguistics, I found it fun and approachable 👍

There's a house in my neighborhood with #Halloween decorations that include a string of bright orange witches' hats hanging from the eaves.
But since I learned from an episode of #Lingthusiasm that "witches' hat" is Australian slang for traffic cones, the color seems even more appropriate!
Why is it that I don't really like /ˈɡreːtçən/ but find /ˈɡɹɛtʃən/ somehow super cute?
