#OTD James Edward Smith, #English #Botanist, is born.
In 1784, after Carl #Linnaeus died, James bought his collection.
When the #King of #Sweden found out, he tried intercepting the ship before it reached #London. But he was too late.
James founded the Linnean Society, & served as its first President. The society became a #Hub for #Scientific #Progress.
The #Linnean #Society is the oldest #Biological society in the world.
