uiiiii - jetzt wo ich ein paar #relays eingetragen habe hier bei mir auf dieser #instanz - ist meine föderierte #timeline tausendmal grösser...
bin gspannt wann mein #speicherplatz ausgeht
als ich das experiment bei meinem #linode server machte, hatte ich am schluss 10gb datenmüll pro tag mehr aufm server... #kicher

I have moved my personal blog away from #wordpress running on a dedicated node in #linode over to #github as static files generated by #jekyll

@majorlinux #linode is very affordable and what I be found that have tons documentation that’s top quality content. I think it’s worth trying Linode out for a month or two. Good luck
So who here is using @njalla? I'm considering migrating one of my #Linode #servers over. Njalla have been on my radar for a few years but not yet tried them. I did always enjoy reading their responses to takedown demands etc. It seems their location and #privacy principles would be worth the slightly higher costs for my needs (shared CPU, 2-4GB RAM). I'd be interested to hear about people's experience with them - or maybe another service you'd recommend! 👍
I hate that I miss #Heroku. Using Heroku is so nostalgic to me. They are the OG in hobbyists hosting, and it's where I made my start. Sadly, they fell to #BigTech and #Salesforce.
Using #Linode now, however, I miss the Heroku CLI and the deployment process. It was just so much better and easier.

It depends on what you're willing to pay, and how much work you're willing to do. If you don't mind paying a bit of money ($10-20 a month) then you can get a service like #DigitalOcean or #Linode and use a one-click installer for something like #Grav #Ghost or #Hugo
If you want to pay as little as possible, you can find a cheaper VPS (or even self-host) and install any of the above, but it's definitely more work and will require some technical trial-and-error.

In part 2 of Portainer, we check out hosting #Portainer in #Kubernetes. We show CE and BE editions then exposing externally via NGinx ingress and TLS. We demonstrate backups to #Akamai #Linode object storage and then setting up #Github OAuth. Lastly, We speak to License types and some WebSocket (shell) issues with Nginx and how to manage. https://freshbrewed.science/2023/07/11/portainer-part2.html

I’m thinking about shutting this instance down after a bit more than a year. I’m all for decentralization but It’s starting to become unsustainable to run on a VPS with #Linode and #backblaze b2 but there’s perhaps other alternative.

Doing that sync is a lot of additional work, and it's not clear how to implement that at all, since you can only attach one volume to one machine at a time.
So that cooled my enthusiasm significantly for now.
But maybe there are other options? Maybe I can use object storage of some sort? Will the latency be OK?
Or maybe one day they'll offer something like #Linode's block storage:

It's "Resilient and Fault Tolerant" as one would expect for such things.

#adhd has brought to my brain the genious idea of creating a website for my friends so we can do homebrew D&D stuff.
But I just have no idea how to host websites
I know how to make them (more or less) but when it comes to hosting them on services like AWS or Linode, I just have no idea.
And any tutorial and guide online have been very unhelpful for me.
if anyone is experienced with #aws or #linode then please do help me, you would be a god in my eyes
I'm thinkign of spinning up a linode when its time for me to run my #owncast instance. Those guys were grate in 2014, hopefully they will be just as good in 2023. do I need a domain or can I just use an IP, or can I use a subdomain on my website to redirect to linode's IP?

#Linode is offering free services until July 1st for the new installations on Chicago, I'm afraid of adding more servers, I mean I don't want to pay 2000 dls if they mess up somehow, but there is so many EPIC CPUs available, I'm dying :abongoblob:
An oddity I discovered is that #Linode is able to spin up instances that boot off block storage (external networked hard drives). 🤔
Block storage isn't as fast as local drives, but it provides a really interesting way to spin up genuine temporary compute instances that pick up exactly where they left off. 🤔🤔
I haven't compared the pricing of Linode GPU compute against Lambda (its probably be worse), but I like that it's an option.
Block storage on RAM instances get me thinking though. 🤔
Decommissioning my old Pleroma instance means I can delete my $36 a month #Linode and go back to the $5 a month #FreeBSD Vultr instance I never quite finished moving away from. Somehow the idea that Pleroma could run on a $5 VPS never panned out. Maybe if I didn't still a front end? Once I fix my db-backed custom blog thing to be static, I'll be back to the 90s!
