@keiththomas the problem is rooted in and it's absurd overcomplexity.

The ony winning move is to go with / instead.

@berkough @fuchsiii But in terms of changes, I jist don't see that happen there...

Maybe making / instead of the "successor" would've be a more beneficial change than replacing SystemD for no good reason.

Technology shofts OFC and so does the meta.

Maybe in 30 years will Linix ise instead of per default and bash scripts will be emulated by that internally?
Who knows...

@Toasterson Well, the @Raspberry_Pi doesn't actually have a , but a simple & minimal ROM that - as @geerlingguy showcased - merely fits a :

Instead of UEFI, on the - like the original - the Broadcom SoC looks for a bootcode at a specific adress and then proceeds to load the initramfs and kernel to boot.

Personally I wished all devices used (aka. )

@koakuma @chjara@snowdin.town Personally, I think that is shitty bloat and that the only winning move would be to use as a minimalist boot system.

@lcruggeri @juliank yes and no.

Yes in that there is cheap stuff like the and absurdly expensive shit like the that noone wants and nothing in between.

Granted there are some ood devices - for their money - but even the @Raspberry_Pi & don't follow spec and most certainly don't have for the bootchain.

Someone REALLY needs to put together an easy to follow walkthrough of the linux boot process that deals with the iniitramfs, /sysroot, systemd (initramfs version then primary fs version) and chrooting

it's so confusing I can't even clearly ask the question
AARGH

I've searched so many terms and nothing is clear on that exact transition moment/step
