I just found out that talking about politics is banned in a group about women in software, #LinuxChix. Women. In. Software. Even worse, it's about #Linux. And #feminism. But no politics. Then why does the group exist? If you don't see politics, you can't see the Patriarchy. Also, the gatekeepers are very rude for a group whose code of conduct is summarised as "Be polite. Be helpful". I often feel excluded from groups like these, because I don't understand their power dynamics or refuse to submit to them. If diversity groups are like that, I truly fear for the future of libre software communities.
