June is Lipedema Awareness Week and this is a friendly reminder not to fat-shame people, because you never know if they have this progressive, debilitating condition or not. Lipedema is a hormone-related lymphatic disorder that is NOT caused by nor cured by lifestyle choices. So making fun of people with lipedema is like making fun of someone with cancer or an autoimmune disorder.

One good thing about being in the ER with #Covid a month ago is that x-rays & a CT scan were done on my heart and lungs and who knows what else. My liver, for sure.

Anyway, I am healthy. Healthy heart. Not diabetic. None of these other things #doctors have told me I'd have by now ... bc I have #lipedema not laziness.

It's devastating to ponder the positive impact ONE compassionate, curious doctor could have made on my life. Instead they chose #FatShaming.

I think I put off sewing because I know I'll have to alter patterns massively, and that scares me.

The Jalie yoga pants pattern needs an extra 20cm of fabric at the centre back to cover my bum and avoid a massive tradie crevasse, the waistband is attached.

An extra 5-8cm in the thighs would be more comfy too.

I'll have to re-work the pattern to include more fabric for next time.

Lipedema figure is hard to fit.

The innocent little dears were such filterless honest creatures!! “Why are you so big?” “You are too tall!” “You look like Santa Clause!” (That was a big reach, Friend) and my favorite, “You are fat!” To which I replied, “Yes, yes I am! GO TO THE THING! You don't need to be in a wheelchair to get Accessible Seating! I cried in pain through Lizzo's show in expensive TINY seats. So when I went to see JVN this month I bought the Accessible Seats! REAL CHAIRS that I fit in. That didn't kill my knees or bruise my hips. Having Lipedema, I've been in agony at events for years. I wish I had the spoons to tackle jeans fitting. This pattern looks like it might fit me with relatively few adjustments.. AND the pattern size chart comes with information about thigh circumference, something that other designers (eg cashmerette in their new dress pants) completely ignore.
