I have invented a #Drink

I call it "The Saturday Social"

1 part orange liqueur (home made with oleo saccharum is top tire for that bit of orange rind note)
3 parts cold #coffee
1 part milk or heavy cream

a very light splash of hazel nut or vanilla if desired.

Serve chilled.

If you use a store bought liqueur, use a smidge caution as some of those taste like cheap ass candy. In which case serve on crushed ice.

It's my birthday! And here's a photo of a couple of visually interesting gifts, a chance to try an older malt (usually out of my price range) and to experiment with a fun flavour when I get back to cocktailing.

I can even use fresh cloudberries as a garnish, because that'd be dead simple, right? 😉

Awhile back I made a strong #liqueur by soaking about 1.5 cups of frozen #raspberry pieces in a similar amount of cheap #vodka with perhaps 1/2c of granulated cane #sugar, all in a canning jar in my #liquor cabinet.

On this super-hot afternoon I poured two ounces of the lovely red raspberry liqueur into a #highball glass full of #IceCubes and chased it with an ounce or so of #cheap American #whiskey. Topped off the glass with #SparklingWater for an utterly delightful strong #summer #cocktail.

First sip is more aggressive than I want. It has the vague Lemonhead taste, but there is a dryness and tartness on the back end that feels distinctly out of place

#Ratafia selber machen

Den köstlichen Walnuss- #Liqueur selber zu machen ist recht einfach, erfordert nur etwas Zeit (ca. 2 Monate).

Handschuhe + dunkle Kleidung anziehen, der Saft der Nüsse färbt hartnäckig!
Grüne (also unreife) #Walnüsse werden geviertelt, in ein Glas gefüllt und mit #Grappa übergossen. Abgedeckt lässt man es jetzt an einem warmen und sonnigen Ort für 40 Tage stehen.
Also geht es so um den 22.08.2023 damit weiter. Auf ein paar Tag kommt es dabei nicht an.

Christmas cookie production mode has commenced in my household. Cornmeal almond and anise biscotti are a staple and although its not #wine, this from one of my favorite southern Italian wineries, a fennel #liqueur, is a nice departure from anisette or other anise-flavored spirits to sip alongside.

I'm always amused that an anatomically pronounced Lucky the Bull that appears on most of the San Salvatore wine labels continues to make it past US TTB censorship. I was doing a video a few years back at a water buffalo ranch in New Jersey. I brought a San Salvatore bianco to pair with this couple's buffalo milk cheeses since the #winery is in Paestum on land shared with 500 or so water buffalo. I showed the owners the label and never having had the wine, knew of Lucky nonetheless and said "we get 'product' from Lucky!" So we had buffalo milk cheese made from milk from Lucky's descendants, an ocean away.

Just bottled the mince pie whisky after 2 days in the storage jar. Very nice!

Oh what a shame there was too much for the bottles, will just have to suffer and drink the excess 😄

Well the chocolate rum and the spicy gingerbread vodka went down very well with work colleagues and some of the regulars at The Tap last night.

Just started some mince pie whisky. Only takes 24 to 48 hours.

Basically put a jar of vegetarian mincemeat in a storage jar with 700ml of whisky. Give it a shake every so often then after 24 to 48 hours strain through muslin or a filter bag and bottle.
