the use of 'take-or-pay' contracts - these are long-term commitments to take a specified amount of LNG, which require payments even if deliveries cannot be made due to lack of available storage.
Desperate for LNG Ghana has accepted these contract, but they're a big part of the 2% of GDP the IMF thinks Ghana has lost to #energy market manipulations.

One of the key ways that #energy is moved around the global political economy is through the trade in #liquifiednaturalgas (LNG).
Here is the breakdown of the key players over the last three years; while the mild winter means that #European #gas reserves are higher enough to (likely) allow countries to stop buying #Russian LNG (for now), nevertheless this is major aspect of #energysecurity that often seems (to me at least) under-reported (?); the domination of US & Qatar (as well as Russia)
