@thephoeron Both were originally/initially developed in Germany. KnowledgeWorks traces back its roots to a system called Ludwig, developed in the WISDOM project at Triumph Adler AG. Then renamed Luigi and later commercialized by Harlequin (1990) for LispWorks as KnowledgeWorks.

Babylon was developed by GMD, Gesellschaft für Mathematik und Datenverarbeitung. It was later also commercialized by VW Gedas.

@natty / ( Emacs with deeper access than GNU Emacs) say no.

iirc does make use of non-textual information about data it has available as well.

You can attach objects and arbitrary attributes to text in Emacs (or indeed you could conceptualize the text as just an incidental storage location for pointers to those objects).

Hot take: the potential of free software cannot be fully realized with static, batch-oriented, multiple-address-space, memory-unsafe programming environments. There is too much friction to exercise your freedom.

@dekkzz76 OSes could do something very similar in saving "worlds", just... not seamlessly. You had to actively trigger it, afaik.

There were compilers for other languages to Lisp for those, too.

A good article about a new (actually old, but newly recovered) version 100 of MIT CADR

Today there has been made a lot of progress. MIT Lisp Machine System 100 now runs on Symbolics Genera.

Check out @lispm who seems to use LispWorks and also has a Symbolics with pictures (keyboards with millions of modifier keys)

[Abstract]
The CADR machine, a revised version of the CONS machine, is a general-purpose, 32-bit microprogrammable processor which is the basis of the system, a new computer system being developed by the [AI] Laboratory as a high-performance, economical implementation of . This paper describes the CADR processor and some of the associated hardware and low-level software.

@MultimediaMage It's a ! A computer with hardware specifically built for the purpose of running lisp code efficiently (so apparently there are unusual things like tagged memory)
