I just finished a new story called “Strange Attractor at the End of Time”! Coming in at 3,800 words (roughly 16 pages), it'll be just perfect for the upcoming Neutral Milk Hotel -inspired anthology from Hungry Shadow Press! Unfortunately, submissions don't open until December, so I'll have to sit on this a while. (Let me know if you want to beta-read in the meantime.) This one is inspired by the NMH song “I Will Bury You in Time,” and I’m quite pleased with it.

I just got my first review on Amazon for my first solo fiction book!

"Surreal Sci-Fi For Serious Thinkers

This novel from Cliff Jones, Jr. is my kind of science fiction novel: It's unpredictable, profound, philosophical and filled with insightful social commentary and brilliant satire on ever page.

Honestly, there are enough great ideas in this book to fill 3 other sci-fi novels, but somehow Jones manages to cram one ingenious concept after the other into every single chapter.

Once I started, I couldn't stop thinking about it until I reached the ending.

Looking forward to more great writing from this author. He's definitely a talent to watch!"

Despite political differences, I think the most important themes I got from the novel are the value of family, perseverance in the face of adversity, and forgiveness. And I got to see the heartbreak of having your home country torn in two from two different POV: the grandmother and the granddaughter.

I’d recommend this for fans of

The top five awesomely verbose titles of Philip K. Dick novels:

5. Puttering About in a Small Land
4. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
3. Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said
2. Dr. Bloodmoney, or How We Got Along After the Bomb
1. The Man Whose Teeth Were All Exactly Alike

I'm currently reading The Friend by Sigrid Nunez, and I feel it's making my happy because it's mostly the main character going through vignettes of her life through its central plot (MC takes in the dog of her late friend.)

The MC goes on tangents, while talking as if she's in conversation with her late friend and the reader is just an invisible observer.

Just finished The Family Chao, Lan Samantha Chang's revisioning of The Brothers Karamazov within a Chinese-American family in the Midwest. Like all successful revisionings, the better you know the original, the more impressed you'll be. Fascinating, moving, and well executed.

I am reading Erica Bauermeister's novel No Two Persons. Her love of fiction and the role of it in shaping our best lives shines through.
From the websites: "One book. Nine readers. Ten changed lives. New York Times bestselling author Erica Bauermeister’s No Two Persons is “a gloriously original celebration of fiction, and the ways it deepens our lives.”

@bookstodon My of by has gone live! Yes, it took me a while to chew on it, because there's a lot of interesting and slightly uncomfortable things in it I wanted to think about - not least because I, too, am engaged in fandom.
