My first book will be coming out with Cornell University Press next year. It's titled "Poet-Monks: The Invention of Buddhist Poetry in Late Medieval China." There's finally a webpage for it, so it feels "real" enough to announce.

Celebrate by listening to the stories of women who made history, like Elsie Robinson, who became the most-read woman writer in the United States & the highest-paid woman writer in the Hearst organization.

Hooray for pandemic co-authoring fun stuff via Zoom! Here's an article on the TV series Dickinson that I wrote with Maria Sulimma for a special issue of Arts, called New Perspectives on Pop Culture, co-edited by Daniel Stein and Niels Werber. This piece has been taking shape for a while, but it came together despite how busy and/or ill we've been, and now it's up online and open access.

Took the day off publishing work. And spent a happy, peaceful productive day in academic work, tracking down research materials I used for a keynote conf paper I gave in 2019, that now needs to become a much more respectable book chapter. So nice to be in academia again. And my visiting research fellowship at Oxford Brookes has finally been renewed. Yay!

in 1926, British mystery writer Agatha Christie left home and disappeared. Her car was found abandoned the next morning, but while the whole country searched for 11 days, she was missing.

Where did she go? And why?

Listen to Unsung History with guest Lucy Worsley to find out.

bookshop.org/p/books/mandelsta

Rightly appreciated as a 'poet's poet', Mandelstam has been habitually read as a repository of learned allusion. Yet as Seamus Heaney observed, his work is 'as firmly rooted in both an historical and cultural context as real as Joyce's Ulysses or Eliot's Waste Land.' Great lyric poets offer a cross-section of their times, and Mandelstam's poems represent the worlds of politics, history, art, and ideas about intimacy and creativity.
