Thrilled to announce that our #EXC2020 #RA4_LiteraryCurrencies volume on "The Value of Literary Circulation" is out! @freieuniversitaet
It can be downloaded here: https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-662-65544-3
The 33 articles put #circulation up for discussion anew as a concept in #literarystudies. The aim is to give the term a methodological-theoretical profile vis-à-vis its metaphorical use, to concretize it materially-phenomenally, and to redefine it for transnationally organized literature.

Feels a bit reminiscent of job market days where I had to become expert in persuasively describing as-yet-unwritten projects. Anyway, if any #AcWri folks out there have fun or interesting ideas for transitioning from the planning/envisioning phase to the concrete 'WRITE THIS and integrate the pre-existing research and already-written chunks/chapters into a whole actual book' phase, I would love to hear them! @academicchatter #literarystudies

2023 is off to a great start with the launch of Writers and Their Work: The Digital Collection. Please take a look, recommend it to your libraries, and read my blog post about the history of the series going back to 1950! #literarystudies https://twitter.com/LivUniPress/status/1613547723839442946

#CFP for edited volume: Nightmare/s in the Long #19thCentury
#Nightmares occupied a special place in “the mythology of the #Gothic imagination”; some of the most famous works in this genre – such as #MaryShelley’s #Frankenstein (1818) & #RobertLouisStevenson’s #JekyllandHyde (1886) – allegedly had their origins in their author’s nightmares

Arthur Machen puts forward that what makes something "fine literature" is a feeling of ecstasy. This is a general term he uses for: rapture, beauty, adoration, wonder, awe, mystery, sense of the unknown, desire for the unknown.
Ecstasy itself comes from feeling outside oneself.
Of course there is a sexual component that is not explicitly in Machen's literary theory but is present in his fiction.
Can ecstasy be divorced from sex? Just feeling pleasure?

Every time I give my students the option to fulfil an assignment through some kind of non-traditional project (a fictional interview, a podcast script, a lesson plan, a blog post) they do such wonderfully wild and clever things. I just finished reading an analysis of two Emily Dickinson poems in the mode of a scene in an interrogation room between Dickinson and Death. So good.

I guess it’s #introduction time: I’m an English prof at Ohio State. I write & research in the areas of #environmentalhumanities, #energyhumanities & #literarystudies. My first home was #modernism & I wrote a book called The Extinct Scene: Late Modernism & Everyday Life (Columbia UP 2016). I am working on a book called Unnatural Attachments: Aesthetic Education & Ecological Crisis. I edit the Energy & Environment forum for Modernism/Modernity’s Print + platform (pitch me!). Into analog things.

Okay #LiteraryCommunity i'm a little emotional right now because a lyric essay I got pubbed in Honey Literary got the close-read treatment over at essay daily, and sol kim, the author of this piece, was incredibly generous and insightful and made me feel grateful to be a writer in ways old and new. I am so fucking grateful to share my words with the world and sometimes get even better ones back.
