#litestep, while buggy as crap, at least could be restarted with a !bang command. Oh yeah, it had a powershell like command line interface and a list of built in and user definable !bang commands. Define "!ps1" to launch photoshop with some options AND a file to open as command line parameters. it was pretty slick.
Throw in #WindowBlinds to skin your actual window chrome, you could customize pretty much everything.
Want an app selector in that corner? boom. Want a right click floating start menu? yep. Was also the first shell for windows to offer multiple desktop support if i recall.
Sadly, #litestep is now defunct, but just happily learned that #blackbox lives on as #xoblite - gonna give that a whirl when I get home tonite.

Ok - so following this awesome UX/UI post https://elk.zone/mas.to/@LewisHarrington/109830583378269115 by @LewisHarrington I was reminded of my days in #litestep. Like #lde and #blackbox, LiteStep (modelled after NextSTEP) was a replacement shell for Windows - essentially it replaced the instance of explorer.exe that provided your desktop, taskbar/systray and start menu. Unlike windows it was highly customizable and skinnable. Here's one of my LiteStep themes from back in the day.
@LewisHarrington That's awesome. Reminds me of an old #litestep theme.
what font is that (looks like Neuropol w/ more square korners)?
Whats your favorite #oldweb website? Mine is probably floach.pimpin.net. A site dedicated to skinning applications. Lots of news about #litestep
