Looking out for strong waves and their aftermath, especially the loss of the beach sand buffer at areas where #coastal #erosion is a constant threat.
The steep approach angle from the south will exacerbate erosion at the south end of many #LittoralCell boundaries.
#Sediment will be on the move.

Customized shoreline excursion vehicle “The Sediment Hunter” circa 1989. The SEV was stripped to its chassis and rebuilt to Littoral Zone specifications with:
Shoreline viewing ports
Shag-carpet-based auxiliary sediment retention throughout
1-way long distance FM Comms (receive only)
Stealth Beach Graphics to avoid alerting wildlife
Hi-Tech Survey Gear and Sediment Transport Trailer

This should be filed under #GeologyHumor as only a #Geologist would look at an earthquake and think “well, that’ll increase the sand supply to the #LittoralCell for years to come”.
Seriously though, my family hails from the area, so first thought was that I remember being there in 1987 when a very similar quake occurred and did relatively little damage. Glad most are ok.

These things are related. The Eel River drainage has some of the highest bed load transport of sediment of any west coast river, especially surprising given its far lower discharge. This is attributed to the fact that the extensive faulting system from the Mendocino Fault Zone come ashore into the Eel River Valley.
This area has gone through some stuff…and it is reflected in the sediment load.
