#LivingBlindfully Coming up on Living Blindfully episode 247, We’re ready for Apple’s next big reveal, frustration mounts over ACB’s absence from mastodon, and Sammy Sweet Spirit encourages sighted people to look at it this way - https://www.livingblindfully.com/lbpreview0247/
For #ACB members subscribed to the Conversation list, you may be interested to know that after the BOP meeting, yesterday I subscribed to that list so I could immediately exercise a right of reply to things said at that meeting.
At this stage, my subscription has still not been approved.
I don’t know who approves it and who is consulted, whether the process is just slow, or if something else is going on. But perhaps someone who knows the process can help.
Failing that, I will post the message I have prepared on this topic, which include some advanced audio from the forthcoming #LivingBlindfully episode, to my blog later today. I am entitled to a right of reply and will have it one way or another.
@JonathanMosen I did listen to this just as an observer and was dismayed to hear the content. The following struck me:
1. It did seem that a number of the people there were technically inept, and I mean seriously. They had no concept of what is involved to integrate Mastodon into their existing technical infrastructure. It seemed that even preliminary research had not been done. If they are unfamiliar with even the rudimentary elements of X or Twitter terminology, and dismiss other aspects of social media with such contempt (as one person did in her voice), then I think anyone can say they are probably not going to take this on board any time soon. I don't believe for a second that it could not be incorporated into existing systems without too much effort.
2. The veiled references to your podcast were unfortunate. If someone is going to refer to a publication, it is probably better that they do not hide behind innuendo.
In short, give a committee a subject and usually they'll talk for hours and not a lot happens.
If one of the leading organisations of blind people cannot be on the platform, that lessens the chances of other organisations providing services for us joining.
There's a lot more I could say, but I only write about a quarter of what I actually think about things on Mastodon. #LivingBlindfully
