Als Vernon 15 is leert hij zichzelf gitaar spelen op een oude gekregen gitaar. Zijn eerste carrière stappen maakt hij in 1980 met de band van Ronald Shannon Jackson en richt in 1984 de rockband #LivingColour op, een band die bekend staat voor hun fusie van funk, jazz, hiphop en heavymetal.
In 1988 komt hun debuut #Vivid uit waar hun eigenzinnige cross-over wereldhits oplevert met oa Glamour Boys en Cult Of Personality en ze winnen ook

Reeds bij zijn afstuderen aan Berklee College Of Music valt hij al in de prijzen, en ontvangt hij de #BuddyRich jazzmaster award.
Hij werd vooral bekend als drummer van living colour, maar speelt ook bij bands als #JungleFunk en #HeadFake.
Ook is hij sessiemuzikant op albums van oa #JacoPastorius en #PublicEnemy.
In '88 wordt hij door de lezers van #ModernDrummer

Ndegeocello volgt les aan de Duke Ellington School of the Arts en de Oxon Hill High School tot ze naar New York verhuist. En in 1992 haar demo bij #Madonna terecht komt. Tot dan speelde ze op het eind van de jaren 80 in wat bandjes, oa #LittleBennieAndTheMasters, en in 1992 een tijdje bij de award winnende hardrockband #LivingColour.
Maar in 1993 bracht het label van Madonna haar debuut en voor #Maverick de eerste release uit.
