Been thinking about the massive number of "big house" burnings in the #CivilWar since the programme #TheIrishCivilWar, including the darling #MauriceMoore's gaff, and it strikes me that if the #FreeState had the balls to face down #Churchill, #Wilson, #LloydGeorge et al and #negotiate with the #republicans, it is likely that none of these houses would have been burned; in effect, the #RightWing state caused their burnings

#IrishHistory #CivilWar #LloydGeorge Interesting: "Mr Ahern said the 1922 Collins-de Valera pact was a last-ditch attempt to avoid conflict with its proposal to put forward a national coalition of candidates representing both sides of the treaty debate, which would have ensured anti-Treatyites got cabinet seats after the election.
"But Mr Lloyd George again intervened, he said, insisting that the Collins-de Valera pact violated the treaty by accommodating republicans”. https://www.irishtimes.com/history/century/2022/12/04/david-lloyd-george-played-a-dishonourable-role-in-bringing-about-irish-civil-war-ahern-says/
