This year I've ignored it for a bit. But for a real #lmfanboy of course I also need to install the latest #linuxmint. Wipe and clean for sure since I don't like upgrading 😎
First thing to try would be updating #xfce to 4.18
Will see how that goes....

Yes it might be a great beginner friendly OS. But nothing stops one from getting more advanced with it. From a happy #lmfanboy since 2015 🥳

I think I gonna skip the #linuxmint 21.1 update, since latest #xfce4.18 anyway isn't shipped with it. But in the end I guess, as a #lmfanboy I will try it out regardless 🤷 🤓

It's a fine distro, including starters.
I am using it for many years now (#lmfanboy 🤓), Ubuntu/Debian base makes it very stable. Despite it is called "for beginners" I got quite advanced with it, although probably still a beginner in the whole Linux curve and tinkered the system up and down.
Old hardware, new hardware, doesn't really matter. You should be fine 👍
And if something do'h do'h...just yell...politely though 😉

Snaps nutzen (zu muessen?) und das ganze andere drum herum, klingt schon etwas nervig. Aber ich denke, Mensch ist Dinge gewoehnt und trotz gelegentlichem Distrohopping, bleibt man wahrscheinlich doch ueber laenger wieder beim bekannten. Bei mir ist es #linuxmint und alles laeuft, wie es soll. Wobei selbst ein 'interner' Umsteig der DE von #Mate auf #XFCE schon neue Herausforderungen mit sich brachte.

Dann nenne mich Dauer-Umsteiger. Nutze Mint seit ca. 8 Jahren und mittlerweile, ausser mit Browser, fast nur auf der command line. Geht natürlich genauso auch mit LM. Mensch kann also auch umsteigen und darauf hängen bleiben 🤓

Playing around with some styling in the gtk.css for my #xfce panel widget scripts (via #genmon)
Aaargh, css has a weird syntax though!
But happy to see that the switch from #mate to xfce was worth it. The latter I find much easier to configure more individually.
And so the saga continues to more and more turn a DE into a #twm look alike.... 😅

Same here, #lmfanboy und so 😉
Am besten (mMn) waere ein minimal LM-Installer, aehnlich wie #Arch das so oft macht. Und dann kann Mensch entscheiden, was alles drauf soll. So sehr ich es auch mag und empfehle, Mint ist zugegeben doch schon ziemlich bloat.
Aber genau das macht es natuerlich auch fuer neue NutzerInnen interessant und einfach zu verwenden 🤔

Hier laeuft LM bestens auf einem 6 Jahre alten "Crapbook" (glaube die hiessen mal Netbooks 😼) mit Celeron Prozessor und fast ohne Grafikleistung.
