Tip for #Tasmota nerds with #LocalBytes #LocalBytesShop smart plugs --
To switch the output permanently on, use this template:
{"NAME":"LocalBytes PM Always On","GPIO":[0,0,0,0,2720,2656,0,0,2624,3872,3840,0,0,0],"FLAG":0,"BASE":18}
When the smartplug reboots, power metering won't work because it thinks the switch is off. To fix that, open the Console and send this command:
SetOption21 1
To undo, restore the template from: https://blog.mylocalbytes.com/kb/2023-02-01/refs-wifi-smart-plug/
Then Console -> SetOption21 0

@xplore @johnmclear You can update the firmware. The smart plugs came from Local Bytes with Tasmota 12.1.0. I used the OTA upgrade to download 12.4.0, the latest version. It downloads the minimal firmware first, then you use firmware update again to get the full version.

My latest order from Local Bytes has arrived, two smart plugs pre-flash with Tasmota.
Tasmota is open source firmware for ESP devices.
These smart plugs connect to Wi-Fi and include energy monitoring.
I already have one plugged into my washing machine. When the washing machine finishes I get an alert from Home Assistant.

@ChrisWarwick @peter @alexgranford @revk Thanks to this post I discovered #LocalBytes and ordered some power monitoring plugs myself. They arrived this morning and I was just playing with one to see how it all worked.
It says firmware 12.2.0 on the box but it was running 12.1.1. Obvs mashed that upgrade button and on 12.3.1 now 😁
Really slick getting into #HomeAssistant, I spent some time trying to figure out how to enable detection only to find it was already there and set up 😅
Thanks! 👍❤️

I discovered (no pun intended!) the reason for my issue with HA discovery - the plug was dated August last year and running firmware version 12.1.0. Name resolution was introduced in 12.1.1. 😠 I've now upgraded to the latest version and ha.local is found without problems. #HomeAssistant #LocalBytes #SmartPlug

My #LocalBytes Smart Plug arrived this morning - all set up with #HomeAssistant
After install I was unable to see the plug in HA. After a bit of faffing about I found that the problem was that the plug couldn't resolve the name of my HA server (I use "ha.local"). I changed to the IP address and all was well.
Fabulous service from Local Bytes - I've just ordered four more 🙂
My next step into #SmartHome arrived today in the form of a #LocalBytes #SmartPlug (https://www.mylocalbytes.com/products/smart-plug-pm) which I'm hoping will give me better insight into energy use (and some #ShinyGraphs!)
Plumbed into #HomeAssistant with great ease!
