@krnlkule IMHO, you are underestimating the power of the #LocalFeed of #Mastodon. If I'm selling motorbikes, I want to be on the Mastodon instance of the bikers, assuming there will be one, so I can easily reach them via Local feed. To be where my audience already is, will be much more effective than creating my instance and then trying to attract new members. If my brand is Ducati or Harley-Davidson, I can afford to have my Mastodon instance, but for everybody else, I would not recommend that.
Going through my #homefeed #localfeed and #federaredfeed in #mastodon reminded me of the joy of early stage of the #birdsite It was a while ago. A mix of good feelings,#smile and interest in lots of discussions and comments. Thank you everyone at #mastodon I needed that.

So, one month after switching to #mastoai in favor of an #Instance that was smaller than the one I was on, I've now moved once again to #TwitSocial for a similar reason. It's also a move from a more all-purpose instance to one focused on some of the things I'm interested in. I'm looking forward to exploring my new #LocalFeed!
A word of advice to those who, like me, are still finding their place here on #Mastodon; don't be afraid to move and explore. Make your #experience what you need it to be!

My feed is full of #tech #history #philosophy #webdev #art #photography and #gaming
GAH
My local and my home feed are just marvelous - makes me so happy.
Thanks for making this place a gawd-damn delight #mstdngames

Mal eine Frage zu Mastodon. Wenn ich Posts eines Accounts vom lokalen Server/ Instanz booste, erscheinen diese anschließend doppelt in der lokalen Timeline?

@McCullohMD may be able to clarify or kick this question over to the #techsupport
OTOH if this reply populates anybody's feed, then that would prove that I am mistaken.
In which case, I will delete the post.
If this post remains visible, that means that this #reply did NOT populate my #homefeed the #localfeed or the #federatedfeed ON THIS INSTANCE.
(Pardon the all caps, required for emphasis.)

@travwaller There's no algorithm whatsoever.
The #LocalFeed is posts strictly from users on mastodon.lol
The #Federated feed is posts from all servers "known" to this server. I don't know exactly how that works, whether it's an automatic thing or if it has something to do with who's following whom.
I'm sure someone can explain federated better than I can. I tend to avoid it because the local feed is cozier and more intimate for me.
@susul I love the distinction between #LocalFeed and #Federated feed. I agree that the server feed feels more intimate and I'm sure that everyone's sick of me by now.
Ok let's see if I can actually get more videos edited today, instead of being such an attention slut in the #LocalFeed #JustYouTuberThings #GamerAttentionSpan
#localfeed #JustYoutuberThings #GamerAttentionSpan
@yindithey I can understand that, but from what I've seen, the mastodon.lol community is incredibly welcoming and super nice! A few weirdos here and there, but that's every group. If it helps, I always recommend sticking strictly to the #LocalFeed for a while. The #Federated feed is super overwhelming, almost incomprehensible, until you figure out filters and stuff. Hope you stick around!
@ThatLuna I love it here! I imagine that it wouldn't feel as close-knit on a larger server. I get that sense when I open the #Federated feed. But sticking to the #LocalFeed I feel like my interactions are more meaningful. It's nice feeling seen.
@everyman Here you go

It's a bit lengthier than the post I'd read in the #LocalFeed yesterday, and I forgot to favorite it, but this is pretty much it.
@susul I kind of think that there's no right or wrong way to use the platform. For example, I'm finding that sticking to the #LocalFeed exclusively has been fairly rewarding thus far. On the other hand, I've read other Toots where ppl mess around with the #Federated feed all the time. It feels to me like this platform is exactly what you make it. :D
@mollyboom I haven't used the search function to any great extent. I've stuck to the #LocalFeed for now as I get used to the platform. And honestly I don't see a reason to branch out just yet. This server is large enough that I'm basically seeing something new all the time, but small enough that I can get eyes on my content without too much stress.
@mollyboom as far as I can tell, the only real advantage is being able to interact specifically with the server's #LocalFeed . That said, the same posts would appear in the #Federated feed if they're grouped (i'm not sure what the terminology is in that regard). But it would also take some effort in manually curating your #Federated feed to display just the content you want. That's a bit beyond my skillset at the moment; I've only been here a couple days now.
@embee To find new ppl, just interact with us on the #LocalFeed or #Federated feed!
If you're looking for ppl from your old platform, I think there's a site that periodically scans twt profiles that put their Mastodon handle in their bios and adds them to the list? I'm unsure about that.
There is also a search function to directly locate someone, very handy if you already know their @handle@server
@vampiress Yeah the Filters in settings looks more like an opt-out type of situation. And there's another option to feature your own #Hashtags but I think that's purely for ppl who are looking at your content, not the other way around. I primarily stick to the #LocalFeed so I'm not really sure how the other browsing features even work to be honest
@Twerpy Which app are you using? I've noticed through reading conversations here on the #LocalFeed that some apps lack features or do some things that others can't.
If you're comfortable with it, DM me their handles and I'll see if I can't help you find them or possibly even get connected w/ them.
@paulkatz Certainly! I'm new here myself, so most of what I know has been through osmosis over the last couple of days. I pretty much stick to the #LocalFeed and a lot of ppl offer tips, so keep an eye out!
I've only been here like a day? Two days? Not long.
But I've been seeing a lot of posts on my #LocalFeed like "Oh here comes the trash, time to quit Mastodon now too" or "no tiddies, gay only plz"
Now I acknowledge that my cis/het/white opinion matters very little, if at all, on certain topics, but these kinds of attitudes seem excessively aggressive and exclusionary, especially in a space like this.
