In 2008, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley negotiated what may be the single worst deal in American urban history, turning over his city’s parking spaces and meters to a private company for 75 years. Transition teams are standard practice today for a new mayor. By design, they are heavy on inclusion and political closure, but it’s conceivable some good ideas come from them. The mayor-elect of Denver, Mike Johnston, has taken these ideas to the max, announcing the leaders of his transition effort … and then throwing membership open to anyone in the city. IMHO Baltimore City desperately needs better information management systems and practices - especially around transportation and capital projects of all kinds.
