I can see some legitimate uses for local agencies communicating their needs to state legislators, but it certainly needs transparency and guardrails.

Also, needs to change how it numbers bills so they aren’t reused year to year, which seems to be gumming up, among other things, the lobbying transparency reporting. Prefixing them with the year could help, e.g. AB 23-294.

Since gas used tools are so loud, I wondered if they violate city noise ordinance. they do.

Presenting this to the city govt would accomplish nothing. Instead, I'm going public with it in the local newspaper.

I aim to make the govt look bad. It is ignoring its own rules and lying about it. I will expose that.

I don't know what will happen after publication. But I have 2 more op-eds planned, which will make them look even worse.

Just returned from chairing the Poultry Regulation Working Group meeting. So many pithy comments I want to make but the truth is we did a good job re-working the regulations to make them clear, understandable, and fair, found consensus and avoided partisan bickering. I’m a little shook that local government…works? Of course before I get lost in naive euphoria, we still have have a public hearing and that’s where the real scope for chaos lies.

I asked my city council to review gas tool policy this fall. Of course, the reply I got was vague. It’s an attempt to placate me and to commit to nothing substantive. I expected that, but it’s still infuriating.

I have shifted my focus to finding allies. I’ll be making and distributing a flyer, as a start.
