Made my friend a blueberry-peach #pie for her birthday! Combined a couple of recipes to suit. I hadn’t made a lattice in years, so I chose that for fun :) She brought me the berries from a farm up the Columbia Gorge, and I got peaches from around there too :)

I grow many of the plants I use and what I don’t grow, I’m very selective about what I source. The batch on the right got tossed.

We grow nearly all the vegetables we eat in a year, but that means eating a lot of blanched/frozen veg for 5 months. This year I experimented w/ some Italian chicories, incl 'Rossa di Treviso'. I sowed in summer, harvested roots in fall, then stored roots in the fridge. In mid-Dec, I "planted" some roots in a pot in the basement & covered them--no light. After a few weeks, we have fresh veg again! Next year, I'll sow earlier in the season so roots are larger. #gardening #vegetable #LocallyGrown
