When I returned home from grocery shopping earlier today, I saw something on the back steps. Didn't look like a package. As I got closer to the garage, I had a better look.

Our resident woodchuck (groundhog), whom I've named Horace, was surveying the yard.

Just sitting. Not up on his haunches, just sitting on the top step.

The moment I reached for my phone to try to take his picture, he turned and slid through the opening under the back porch.

Mixed flock of small local native birds, very much enjoying their bath. There is mostly Red-browed Firetails (local seed eating species) and some Thornbills and Weebills (our tiniest birds). They absolutely love to bath and clean their feathers. Here’s a couple of impressive creatures I came across on a scrub walk in my local Conservation Reserve, one a GIANT Grass Tree (Xanthorrhoea semiplana) another is a very large male kangaroo - Western Grey (Macropus fuliginosus) resting during the afternoon. I have a little friend, a local frog who I keep finding in my watering can, the spout was not flowing as I emptied it on some plants, I looked in and this frog was right in the top of the nozzle, I then gently, slowly filled it up with the hose and he just hung around the inside lip… #Nature #LocalWildlife #biodiversity

I saved a peanut for the woodpecker but a chickadee stole it.

Don't worry tho, that woodpecker got some seeds after.

Hey there Mastodons, another pic of my favourite birds at the moment - Dad Superb Blue Wren - at the special small bird seed basket. The hanging basket being round, with a snug fitting square plate on top allows two small gaps each end, just big enough for small local birds - a smaller saucer inside holds the hemp seed treats. #Birds #Biodiversity #LocalWildlife #Nature
