El 1 de julio de 1916, cerca de la villa de La Boisselle, el Ejército Británico excavó un túnel bajo una fortaleza alemana llamada #Schwabenhöhe.
Los artificieros colocaron 30 toneladas de amonal y lo hicieron explotar.
La explosión se escuchó desde Londres, dejó un cráter de 100m de diámetro y 33m de profundidad.
En 1998 todavía aparecían restos de soldados en las inmediaciones del cráter #Lochnagar.

A sequence of pictures looking into Lochnagar and taken at the bealach between Meikle Pap and the Ladder last Friday. The first is taken using a drone just as the cloud came in. A Bluebird day with perfect Alpine conditions out on the #Cairngorms today. Up on the high tops at #Munro height with great views of #CairnToul, #AngelsPeak #Braeriach, and even #Lochnagar in the distance but holy guacamole I had to put in some graft; climbing through thigh deep snow zaps every ounce of energy and you can forget about being able to see/follow any paths!
Probably best that my other half gave today a miss as she’d not have thanked me for dragging her through that depth of snow ❄️🥾🏔️
