Here’s a quick tutorial for those of you looking to change the lock screen background used in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS through the most recent release, Ubuntu 23.04. Out-of-the-box (as this is the same for any Linux distribution using a modern version of GNOME Shell) the lock screen background is a blurred version of whatever image is set as your default wallpaper. And for most folks, that’s fine. But if you’d rather use a different image as your lock screen background without the blur effect the lock screen normally applies (though blur is still used for the “shield”) you can do :sys_more_orange:

115 followers · 1778 posts · Server twit.socialToday I Learned that the #Kubuntu 23.04 live CD has a user with no password, but also has a screensaver with #lockscreen activated that doesn't accept a blank password as valid. 🙄
So when I left my laptop running a partition resize operation and came back later, I had to Ctrl-Alt-F2 into the terminal to change the password then Alt-⬅️ to the lock screen to put in the new password.
This seems like a dumb thing to do on a live CD that people might use for repair/rescue purposes.

A slight change to my lock screen.
On previous occasion I thought ”I would be so productive if I just had straight access to add task in Ticktick or calendar event in Fantastical from the lock screen!”
Yeah.. ”Nice try mr. wasteman”, I said to myself..
I tried it for a bit but then I just ended up with very classic arrangement of widgets that provide the most essential information I need:
1) what day is it
2) is it warm
3) how’s my battery life
Yea. Idk. 🤷♂️
