First, Mattia - at that time a Bachelor student in our 2-man-group - singlehandedly established optogenetics. The plan: stimulate the #LocusCoeruleus, run RNA-seq in the dorsal and ventral hippocampus (HC). But our simple plan quickly got complicated.

Importantly, the nature of pupil-AAS coupling during rest appears to be vastly different from the relatively slow canonical hemodynamic response function that has been used to characterize task-related pupil-AAS coupling."

Hello,
I am a neuroscientist studying how specific regions in the brain are vulnerable to Alzheimer's disease (#AD). We are mainly interested in the neurons of entorhinal cortex and hippocampal since they are affected early in AD and important for memory. We use in vivo electrophysiology to understand the population dynamics of neurons affected by amyloid beta and tau pathologies. More recently, we've been interested in how locus coeruleus pathology impacts downstream regions.

I am an "assistant" professor at the University of Nottingham, but will be moving to the University of Tilburg in two months.
My main interest is the #locuscoeruleus - both its role in adaptively modulating #cognition and its degeneration as an early step in #Alzheimers disease.
The methods I use include #pupillometry, #mri, #eeg and naturalistic driving tasks.
I also write software in #Java, #Python, and #Matlab.
