International botanists 'so shocked' after tour of the Great Koala National Park
The future Great Koala National Park has been toured by the world's leading botanists, and they are concerned.
The experts are in the region for an International vegetation conference, but ahead of the event they spent days walking through local state forests.
Professor Helge Bruelheide, Professor of Geobotany at the University of Halle in Germany said logging should 'stop immediately'.
Stop logging right now!

‘Minds were blown’: These scientists were stunned at what’s happening on the NSW North Coast
“This means Forestry Corporation NSW plans to log three times more compartments of state forest within the proposed Great Koala National Park over the next year than they did over the last two years combined"
“It is spectacular. All the variants of this Gondwana rainforest – cool and warm, temperate rainforest and also the subtropical rainforest – is something that is so unique globally that you wouldn’t find it in this particular combination elsewhere... Professor Helge Bruelheide, professor of botany at the University of Helle in Germany, was stunned by what he has seen exploring the forests in and around the promised Great Koala National Park on the state’s North Coast this week."
“The tempo, the scale, the intensity of logging has all ramped up since labour was elected. It is a pillage. It’s a smash-and-grab operation by a loss-making Crown corporation. They are jamming boiled lollies in their mouth as they bolt down the street,” say Graham, who feels let down by Labor."
"One of the reasons the Victorian industry was eventually closed was because citizen scientists proved the state loggers were not properly protecting greater gliders. The failures cost VicForests millions of dollars in fines and access to forests it needed."
"As the legal challenges wind their way through the courts, the NCC is about to ramp up the pressure by announcing the creation of Breachwatch, a network of volunteers trained and equipped to monitor, record and report evidence of Forestry Corp breaches."

The logging industry and The Great Koala National Park
"The days of hand tools have given way to heavy machinery that tears through the landscape in pursuit of trees. Vast hectares are now stripped down to bare soil. These 40-tonne machines compact the dry ground, hindering the forest's natural growth, healing and regeneration."
"There is also the unseen financial burden carried by Australians through taxes. According to the NSW Forestry Corporation's (2021-22) annual report, logging native forests not only threatens species on the brink of extinction but also costs taxpayers millions. The report reveals NSW taxpayers unknowingly fund the felling of forests the public wishes to protect, making this practice not only environmentally but also economically unsustainable.'

The Great Koala National Park without any Koalas
"The proposed Great Koala National Park (GKNP) on the NSW Mid North Coast between Kempsey, Grafton and Armidale is home to 1 in 5 of the wild Koalas in New South Wales".

‘Back the chainsaws’: Albo slammed amid calls to end decades-long ‘damaging’ forest logging
“Over 90 per cent of native forest that is logged in NSW is pulped and sent overseas to be used in woodchips and cardboard.”
“The NSW government has been covering the losses of the native forest logging industry for nearly a decade. It is not a profitable industry; in the past two years alone, $29 million of taxpayer money was spent subsidising native forest logging".
"...The NSW government's audit office found FCNSW did not consistently monitor compliance of its contractors or assess risks."

Study reveals how much carbon damage would cost corporations if they paid for their emissions
"The world’s corporations produce so much climate change pollution, it could eat up about 44% o f t h e i r p r o f i t s if they had to p a y d a m a g e s for it, according to a study by economists of nearly 15,000 public companies."
The “corporate carbon damages” from those publicly owned companies analyzed — a fraction of all the corporations — probably runs in the trillions of dollars globally and in the hundreds of billions for American firms, one of the study authors estimated in figures that were not part of the published research. That’s based on the cost of carbon dioxide pollution that the United States government has proposed."

It should have been a Great Koala National Park.
One can assume that the proposed logging along Tuckers Nob State forest, compartment 26/27 will also look like this.

"Many parts of the world have successfully moved away from heavy extraction-based industries – both ecologically and economically.
The supply of sawlogs in Victoria was close to being exhausted, and the state’s #LoggingIndustry had long been financially unviable. Restoring the forest offers the opportunity to put something better in its place. Restoring heavily logged forests will need an active workforce for many years to come. First Nations empowerment is key. Now begins a long and difficult process to recover vast areas of forest after more than 50 years of #clearfelling and other destructive logging practices."
