Logical Fallacies: Examples and Pitfalls in Research and Media

๐Ÿ“š "In public discourse, research and academic writing, logical fallacies should always be avoided because they invalidate conclusions and arguments. Unfortunately, it is easy to commit such logical fallacies ourselves."

Why do I use this old site of ?

nizkor.org/fallacies/

1. It's well-funded and will probably always be there
2. They never change the URLs, avoiding link rot
3. It is well-written and clear without wordy blog-style writing

This is the fallacy, writ large. The GOP and their mouthpieces use it masterfully, and they get away with it because tens (hundreds?) of millions in this country have no ability to recognize nor inclination to avoid .

How might we build a bot that detects to stop disinformation from spreading in online communities?

The patterns are well-defined. I mean how hard would this be to build this into TV News shows also?

How can AI be used to help TV journalists from airing ?

For example: How can AI be trained to detect logical fallacies spoken by guests on political news shows?

Like โ€œFalse Equivalency.โ€

AI can Learn how to spot a dishonest statement with simple instructions:

A false equivalence or false equivalency is an informal fallacy in which an equivalence is drawn between two subjects based on flawed or false reasoning.

@Dianora When you learn multiple logical fallacies and modes as a part of critical thinking it will inculcate humility no? You have to see that each of those techniques usually lead to different answers and therefore there are multiple answers to any question. To take away certitude from critical thinking techniques is incoherent and really not doing them right

A weapon of environmental destruction apologists is to scan for hypocrisy. This is logically fallacious. Showing that someone acts inconsistently with their eco values or demands neither renders their facts invalid nor excuses anyone adding to their poor behaviour.
