From my experience, simply starting to use FOSS solutions going forward, a little at a time. There is no need to jump in with both feet.
One of the best resources I found, is #logosbynick who is a very accomplished designer with experience in both worlds. He has many free tuts plus some super affordable series.

I would think he'd have invaluable input/insight from an artist/user perspective.
The development of #blender and #krita have been greatly improved by working with artists to find blind spots in their software.
@davidrevoy is a great example of this collaboration and the positive results that came out of it.

This ice cream is my result from a #LogosByNick #tutorial on #youtube. I lean on videos to practice the program. To learn, I did buy a class by Nick Saporito because his teaching style resonates. For me, a stellar investment.
My normal #art workflow: sketch/ink on #krita, convert .png to .svg, and work from it. I also use the Bezier pen on my sketches.
I love how it's #linux friendly and #opensource. Several super tutorials exist on that workflow.
