Went for a around Lud's (or Ludchurch to some) in which I'd never visited, despite working only a few miles away for over a decade earlier in my life.

A fascinating place with a rich which is well worth reading about, and not just about it's use as a safe place to (see the and John Wycliffe for that... britannica.com/topic/Lollards ).

Busy though. Didn't expect the local RC club to be climbing up in the hills!

Died 1417, Sir John Oldcastle, an English Lollard leader. When Oldcastle was convicted of heresy, he escaped from the Tower of London and led a rebellion against King Henry V. He was later captured and executed. historyofparliamentonline.org/

This is Ludd's church. It's said that Robin Hood would use it as a base of operations. It was also allegedly a church for Lollards.

Some scholars also argue that it was the inspiration for the Green Chapel in the Arthurian legend "Gerwain and the Green Knight".
