The #LomaPrieta earthquake was stronger and shallower than the Morocco earthquake and the #Morocco quake is seeing hundreds of times more death.

A fair bit of our local sales tax in the #SFBayArea goes to #infrastructure #retrofitting for #quake #safety and I don't want to hear a single peep of complaint about that. It really matters.

I don't blame Morocco one bit, they aren't especially wealthy and earthquakes like this are rare there. But I think the illustration is relevant.

📷 I moved to SF in January, 1990, two months after #LomaPrieta after thousands of buildings were damaged and deemed uninhabitable, unless and until they were remediated aka retrofitted.
