Out of the bunch of silent films I watched this week I highly recommend

The Cat and the Cannary, a horror comedy in a haunted house that has some beautifully composed shots and camera work. And

The Penalty, a crime drama with Lon Chaney as a legless crime boss. The story is as compelling as the practical effects.
