I am only 70, and have very little personal experience with either #Depression or #Loneliness. I have had more relationships with those who experience D. than with those who have L.

I do notice increasing exposure to L. as I associate more with elders as I age into one; and am willing to discuss it, acknowledging that doing so can be quite difficult.

I have been taking care of the PC of my 80+ year old ex-neighbour for years and every time she wanted to pay me for the effort. I declined multiple times before she suggested that she could cook for me as compensation. Found that a very good idea. After the first time, as I was ready to leave, she grabbed me by the arm and asked when I was coming again. Then I noticed, this was not about PC or compensation, but about loneliness. We have been having lunch together ever since (as far as Covid did not come in the way).

Please be receptive for loneliness signals. It is really tragic and a small thing can have a big impact.
