Cases of Heartland virus are increasing. It should be considered as a possibility in patients with undiagnosed fever, diarrhea, myalgias, and elevated liver enzymes who live in areas where Lone Star ticks are found. virus can also cause encephalopathy and hemophagocytic syndrome (both potentially fatal).
