After almost never ending good weather the rain finally caught up with us. Just as we are entering basque countryside we are in fog and rain for days. But today we got to have some dramatic views as we got under the clouds.

Today have been a big birds day. We saw red kites constantly, but also an eagle (most likely a white tail see eagle), many cranes, 3 storks.
We have followed the river Elbe for two days now and are not tired of walking on top of dikes. The water level is rather high, but I think that is normal for spring. We don’t see the old border much, but then we come across remnants kept for history.

Today have been a nature day. We saw signs of wild boar, a beaver including a beaver dam, and a pack of red kites. You can almost see them in the picture. iPhone is not good for nature photography 😀

Our fist encounter with the old border between east and west. Almost as if we had planes it, we came by the border museum “Grenzen museum”, and then we step foot on the old patrol road.

On this day, six years ago, I started my Appalachian Trail thru-hike the right way - from the Amicalola Falls. Did the stairs, with my pack on. I spent 199 days (including few days off the trail due noro) hiking over the Appalachian mountains. Last year I attempted the PCT and wish to return one day. Because long distance hiking is an adventure like no other.
