On #saturday I posted some photos of Old Grace #church on #longisland. In the #churchyard #cemetery, there was this unique #grave inside a low fence with a gate. It captured my #imagination and I thought it was perfect for #TombTuesday. The #inscription on the #obelisk may be found in the alt-text.

Two views of Old Grace #church in #Massapequa #NewYork. Built in 1844 as a #summer church for the prominent Floyd-Jones #family, it was expanded in 1905. #abandoned in 1962 for a new church across the street, it was rescued by the Massapequa #Historical Society & restored. It started life as the Department of #commerce which I assume was a #business #school. It was spun off into a separate school and in 1901 it was #reorganized into Brooklyn #law. 10th anniversary here. Eric Fry (Lenz) was originally the consultant here. The Old World blend 2013 is lovely now, with the sharp edges (mostly) resolved and complexity more on tap. Does Long Island really do well with Merlot (92% here)? Drink this. Classic flavors, plenty of firmness on the finish, and finesse. It sure seems more like Bordeaux as it has aged. 13.2%. More recent vintages were around $50. Lots of life left. A great pairing for steak. #wine #longisland #winesofnewyork #merlot

The #lawschool itself was founded in 1901 and was the first on #longisland. #BernieMadoff and #paulsimon both attended but neither finished. As much as I like Jim Gaughran, (I do) the just announced Democratic candidate for #NY01, I am concerned. He is respected but is 66 years old. He will be going head to head with current Rep. LaLota, a 45 yr old Republican who won an open seat and can tell a story of vibrant youth, new thinking, etc. He can use age along with Gaughran's center-left voting record to malign him with the usual and effective tropes.
Somebody tell me I am wrong.

It will be very hot today here on #LongIsland. Yes, the numerous worldwide heatwaves are driven by #ClimateChange. My agenda today includes work, but also #ClimateAction that includes contacting my elected representatives (again) to urge urgent action. This includes more sidewalks and 🚲 lanes, carbon taxes, removing petroleum subsidies, new subsidies/investments for green infrastructure. And I will breathe in and out taking care my 💔 is channeled to ☮️ action.

On #Saturday, I was able to visit #stjohns #episcopal #church in #oakdale #suffolkcounty #NewYork. The churchyard was locked, but I was able to snap a few pictures over the #wroughtiron fence. #longisland has many of these charming #historic churches—some are in disrepair, but this one appears to be active. #tombtuesday #history #histodons
