Which do you think would better predict stability in political attitudes over time: the strength of commitment to one’s party or the strength of one’s commitment to ideology?
It may depend on country:
- Ideology strength predicted attitude stability (over 1 year) in the US
- Party strength predicted attitude stability (over 6 months) in the Netherlands

“Why Are the Wealthiest So Wealthy?” A rich longitudinal study on amazing Norwegian data 1993-2015 by Serdar Ozkan, Joachim Hubmer, Sergio Salgado & Elin Halvorsen. Higher initial wealth, higher returns & higher saving rates in roughly equal parts account for 90% of the difference at age 50yrs btw top 0.1% & mid-wealth households.

Avoid using the cross-lagged panel model (@richlucas)
- It implies patterns of stability that do not match real patterns of stability
- Other models (RI-CLPM, dynamic panel model) better match assumptions
- It is easy to find spurious cross-lagged effects

Creating a reflective portfolio during a semester resulted in higher GPA among pre-service teachers (N = 63) four semesters in a row (β 0.1-0.2, p < 0.001) compared to other PSTs that had similar GPAs and Pell grant elligibility at the start of the study.

Social support and depression in men:
“Traditional masculinities can be characterised by notions such as self-reliance, stoicism and power display (Levant et al., 2020; Mahalik et al., 2003; Whittle et al., 2015), which result in inhibited support-seeking (McGraw et al., 2021) and potentially stronger effects of depressive symptoms on men’s sense of self (Berger et al., 2013).”

But what is the #RTM effect? This is a typical bias or pattern found in #longitudinal data 🤔 Wait, what do you mean by longitudinal data? Think about repeated observations of the same variable over time, like #paired observations between #historical #surveys & #resurveys

I just watched a classic Hollywood movie from the 1940s and then read an actor's biography on Wikipedia. He used to be a smoker and eventually died of lung cancer. When I did an image search of the actor and compared his youthful images of a handsome man posing with cigarettes with those as he aged, I couldn't help but see high-quality #longitudinal image data of an accelerated #aging #phenotype. Has anyone ever used such data to train an AI to predict #healthspan?

As a prerequisite for the above (especially when you work with #longitudinal #secondarydata):
'As physical environment factors have not been a priority in large-scale, longitudinal studies in the past, more attention should be paid in the future to include data on the physical environment in these studies, or to make it more straightforward for the data users to link their own physical environment variables.'
